i started working on this figure as my grandfather entered into hospice care.
when i brought this figure into production in 2022, The inspiration was in a big way, greif and loss.
I was kind of just coping while I was making this In Texas while he was on his way out in New Jersey. Backstory; I was down to my last completely clear blank, But I was just missing one clear head. By some strange grace, I found just one more quite literally on a small Sofubi shelf that I display next to my bed.
I rushed it downstairs and into the yard to get started on right away. Somewhere in between making and finishing this piece, The man who taught my father to be a business man and father passed on. he taught my father how to walk his own path and be his own man. they both had a small business fulfilling orders of hardware store equipment to local hardware stores before the big names took their place.
I'm selling this, because my pop pop Would be proud to know that in his final hours, his grandson didn't fold over. i'm selling this because He spent his whole life shipping and sending cardboard boxes, Just like my father.
This doesn't belong on my shelf. This belongs in a cardboard box that I packed, And shipped off to the right home. this is my way of being the man i need to be. I set this one at $100 for no reason beyond it feeling like the right thing to do.
i hope whoever gets it values it for not only it's aesthetic, but what it symbolizes.
my grandfathers warmth, support, strength, an ethics, and legacy, are what this piece represents to me. i wouldn't have made it if he didn't instill that into me. who knows if id be confidently making toys at all, if it were not for the men in my life that showed me by example, what it looks like to be a man standing on his own two feet.
